NICCHI NACCHI
A multidisciplinary research project developed by BugginOutCollective
Nicchi Nacchi is the informal name used for a broader research project
bringing together multiple interconnected research questions concerning
information, reputation, social structures, collective mobilisation,
institutional trust, reintegration, resilience and governance.

law-enforcement body or replacement for existing institutions.

The Research Document is the umbrella structure. Individual
research questions can later develop into papers, datasets,
case studies, comparative studies, fieldwork or policy research.

The central research interest is what happens between an observable
event and its social consequences. Information may move between people,
be interpreted differently, become attached to reputation and influence
later behaviour. That behaviour can then create new information.

What are we actually trying to understand?
What happens when different actors possess different parts
of the same information?
How can a reputation develop, spread and become difficult to correct?
How does influence emerge outside formal organisational authority?

Why do people trust institutions in some circumstances
and reject them in others?
Can information and reputation influence employment,
contracts and participation in the economy?
What social conditions make it easier or harder to return
to work, education and community life?
Which community structures help societies absorb shocks
without producing further exclusion or instability?
When does a narrative become a movement?
Contemporary movements provide natural comparative cases for the
research. The project is not interested in treating different movements
as equivalent. The question is whether recurring mechanisms can be
identified across very different social and political contexts.
The Cockroach Movement
The Cockroach Janata Party began as an online satirical platform
and rapidly developed into a youth movement responding to
dissatisfaction around education, employment and political
accountability.

Sensitive research information must be handled under appropriate
privacy and safeguarding standards.

Authority, responsibility, resources and accountability must
remain connected.
Sicily as one contemporary research environment.
Sicily is one case within the broader research. It is valuable because
contemporary questions about organised crime, public institutions,
migration, community resilience, cultural identity, economic participation
and social trust can all be studied in the same geographical environment.
The purpose is not to treat Sicily as an explanation for every
social mechanism. Instead, it provides a real contemporary case
that can be compared with events and movements elsewhere.

how contemporary Sicilian society responds to crime, political
change, social pressure, cultural activity and economic challenges.
Research rule
A contemporary Sicilian event is evidence of that event first.
Connections with unrelated actors, organisations or cases must
be established independently rather than assumed.
Compare mechanisms, not stereotypes.
The research can compare contemporary cases from Europe, Asia,
Africa, the Middle East and the Americas. The aim is to identify
mechanisms that recur across contexts while preserving the specific
history of each case.

Nicchi Nacchi is ultimately an attempt to understand how social
realities form: how information becomes knowledge, how knowledge
becomes belief, how belief influences behaviour, how behaviour
creates institutions or movements, and how those institutions
and movements then reshape society.
